Applications for the Markel University 2008-2009 class will not be accepted after February 28, 2008.
We are excited to announce the Markel University training program with Markel Corporation beginning June 16, 2008. The purpose of the program is to give recent college graduates a broader exposure to our business operations and the insurance industry. Trainees will participate in the rotational program for 12 months with the goal of being placed in a position that matches their skills and interests. Trainees will be based at either our Richmond, VA, or Deerfield, IL, operating companies. The rotation will also include training at our other North America operating companies (Red Bank, NJ; Pewaukee, WI; Scottsdale, AZ). Trainees will be assigned to a mentor who will provide them with guidance and support throughout their training.
Program eligibility:
Individuals interested in being considered for this program must meet the following criteria:
- College graduate or equivalent experience
- Excellent academic credentials
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and analytical skills
- Computer proficiency
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
Program outline:
The program is designed as follows:
- Orientation in Richmond, Virginia, to review expectations of this program and to meet with Markel executives
- Participants are provided with a course book outlining key objectives of departmental/business unit assignments
- Period of rotation by department/business unit to include Claims, Underwriting, Marketing, IT, Legal, HR, Finance, Actuarial
Individuals interested in applying must provide an essay describing:
- their interest in the program
- what they hope to gain from the program and
- why they would make a good candidate for the program
Individuals must also provide a letter of recommendation from a professor within the program of their academic major and a copy of their college transcripts.
