Markel International

Markel International Limited is the holding company for three wholly owned principal operating entities: Markel International Insurance Company Limited in the U.K., Markel Capital Limited, a corporate capital provider at Lloyd's, and Markel Syndicate Management Limited. Markel Syndicate Management manages the composite Markel Syndicate 3000, which has a capacity of over $350 million for 2007. Markel International Insurance Company Limited has a policyholders surplus of $372 million in 2007.

Our Products
Markel International has five operating divisions who write business through either MIICL, its London-based insurance company or through Syndicate 3000, its Lloyd's of London syndicate. The operating divisions are focused on specialist areas as follows:

Specialty
Property, financial institutions, accident and health, contingency and casualty lines written on a direct, facultative, excess of loss and proportional reinsurance basis.

Non-Marine Property
A wide range of property coverages are written on a direct and reinsurance basis, including open market and delegated authority facilities.

Professional Liability
Professional and financial risk coverages, including professional indemnity, directors' and officers' liability and general liability.

Marine and Energy
A portfolio of primary coverages for energy, marine liability, hull war, specie and cargo risks.

Markel (UK) Limited
Our UK provincial operation, provides Professional Risks, Management Risks, Social Welfare Risks and Specialty Property / Liability Risks products via offices in Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, and Reigate

Our Expertise
In each of these markets we seek to provide quality products and excellent customer service so that we can be a market leader. Our financial goals are to earn consistent underwriting profits and superior investment returns to build shareholder value.

Our Experience
Since being acquired by Markel, Markel International has made significant strides in focusing on underwriting profitability. A new management team is in place; operations have been consolidated in one location; and investment, accounting and actuarial functions have been centralised. In addition, a comprehensive restructure of the UK operations resulted in all our existing syndicates being merged into one, Markel Syndicate 3000, for the 2002 year of account. The new Divisional structure within Markel International , as outlined above, was implemented at the same time.
