Markel believes that it is a good idea to get a broad overview of our industry in order to become a more effective underwriter for Markel. The Markel University Underwriting Training Program allows recent college graduates, current Markel associates and industry professionals with 6 -18 months of experience a broader exposure to our underwriting operations. Trainees will participate in the rotational program and gain experience in many departments throughout our company (i.e., claims, marketing, underwriting) with the goal of being placed in an underwriting position that best matches his/her background and interests. Every Markel University associate is assigned a mentor who will provide them with guidance and support throughout their training.
